On Saturday, January 24, Donald Brian Goff, our partner, father, friend, and the love of our life, transitioned onto his next journey. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones and we miss him already.
Don led a life full of passion and advocacy for not only those in his hometown, but the rest of humankind as well. Having spent his life in service to others, his legacy will live on through the many people whose lives he touched and made better. Those graced by his light will continue to practice the lessons of humility, kindness, charity, forgiveness, friendship, humor, and love he so generously shared with us all.
He is preceded in death by the people who helped make him a legend: his adoring parents, Clara Mae and Virgil Brian Goff; his heroic older brother, Virgil Raymond; and his history-making, loving, big sissy, Shirley Ann.
He is survived by the family he built with his partner and love of over 50 years, Darryldean (Marie). He is also survived by the leaders of his fan club, his five daughters, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his younger brothers and their wives (Pat and Judy & Jerry and Gloria), a multitude of nieces and nephews, as well as his first wife, all of the young men and women he embraced as his own by welcoming them into his family, and finally the community he cultivated through his years of volunteer work.
Don will be cremated and a “Celebration of Life” will be announced at a later date.
The family has asked those who would like to continue his life’s work of advocacy and justice, to make a special gift in honor of him to the Southern Poverty Law Center (https://secure.splcenter.org ).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Don's memory may be made to Arbor Day.org.
His family would like to thank you for your love, support, and appreciation of our dear Donny. We will think of him every day and know wherever he is, he is “Great, Grand, Swell, and Wonderful” and he hopes that you are too.
