Donald 'Gene' Eugene Irwin

Donald E. "Gene" Irwin, age 90, of Lawrenceville, IL, passed away July 8, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, IN. He was born June 29, 1922 in Lawrence County, IL, the son of Willard and Iva (Fye) Irwin. He married Ruth O. Crews, March 14, 1953 and she survives. Gene was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lawrenceville. Other memberships include American Legion and VFW. He was also a loyal Civitan and a diehard Cubs Fan. Gene was an Army veteran, having served in WWII with the 76th Infantry Division and in the Korean War with the 43rd AIB. He worked at Texaco Refinery for 35 years. His parents and three brothers preceded Gene in death. Survivors include his wife Ruth of Lawrenceville; three daughters Suellen Irwin of Houston, TX, Beth Deley of Pittsburgh, PA and Janet Caudill of Mooresville, IN; one sister Virginia Conn of Arthur, IL and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9 am to 11 am Wednesday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL. Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday at the funeral home with burial to follow in Cresthaven Memorial Park Cemetery, Claremont, IL. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville.
