Dolores L. Lankford

Dolores L. Lankford, age 93, of Vincennes, Indiana, formerly of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Bridgepointe Health Campus in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born on January 18, 1931 in Drakesboro, Kentucky, the daughter of Milton and Beatrice (Langley) Board. She married Stuart K. Lankford on January 26, 1951, and he preceded her in on March 16, 2017.

Dolores, along with her husband, Stuart K., put WAKO Radio on the air in 1959. They owned and operated the radio station until their retirement in January of 2017. They also owned and operated WREY in New Albany, Indiana and WIKK in Newton, Illinois. Her hobbies included shopping, having coffee with her friends, driving her convertible with her faithful companion, Lucy, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events; as well as wearing hats, high heels, and jewelry. She was a member of the DELTS, DAR, American Legion Auxiliary, Garden Club, Knitting Club, First United Methodist Church, and a past board member of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; one son, S. Kent Lankford; and one brother, Richard Board.

Survivors include one daughter, Paige Petty and husband, Terry of Bridgeport, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Georgia Board; and three grandchildren, Olivia Lankford, Alexandria Petty, and Sydney Petty.

Funeral service will be conducted on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 2:00 PM CDT at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois, and may be viewed with the following link: https//www.facebook.com/emmonsmaceysteffey . Please wear your favorite fancy hat in honor of Dolores. Visitation will be on Friday from 12:00 PM until the service hour of 2:00 PM CDT at the funeral home. A private burial will be conducted. Memorial donations may be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society.
