Dewey E. Jones

Dewey E. Jones, age 96, of Bridgeport, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, Illinois. He was born February 19, 1923 in Richland County, Illinois, the son of John Floyd Jones and Gladys Snyder Jones. He married Ellen Barekman Jones and she preceded him in death. Dewey retired from AMF. He worked for Bridwell Construction and as a laborer in the local oil industry. He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Sumner, Illinois. He served his country in the Air Force during World War II. Survivors include his daughter Juna Irey of Lawrenceville, Illinois, two step sons, Ronald Gay of Richland County, Illinois and John Gay of Claremont, Illinois, one sister, Juna Marcum of Bridgeport, Illinois. Nine grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive. Graveside services will be Monday, September 30, 2019, 1:00 p.m. at the Sumner Cemetery. There is no visitation. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW. Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral is in charge of the arrangements.
