Demaree

Demaree W. New, age 77, of Oblong, IL, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at his residence. He was born November 14, 1935 in Scott, Kentucky, the son of Allie and Era (Duvall) New. Demaree was an Army Veteran, having served during the 1950's and was stationed in Germany. He moved to Chauncey in 1965 and started a used machinery business, and then in 1970, he owned and operated Southeastern Fur Company. In 1981, he began New & Sons Used Farm Equipment. Demaree also worked as a farmer and landowner. He retired at the age of 50 and spent the remaining years collecting antiques, traps and collectibles. He was a lifetime member of the North American Trap Collectors Association. Demaree was preceded in death by his parents and one son Jeremy. Survivors include the mother of his children Kay (Gulledge) New, two sons John New of Oblong, Jason (Jessica) New of Bridgeport and, one step-daughter Tonna McNary of Oblong, IL; three grandchildren: Jeremey New Jr., Deegan New, Gracie New and several cousins. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Saturday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. Funeral services will be at 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Waggoner East Cemetery.
