David L. Higgins, 67, of Lawrenceville passed away Tuesday September 23, 2008 at his residence.He was born in Crawford County, IL on April 28, 1941 the son of Samuel Allen and Gleda (Akers) Higgins.David served 20 years in the United States Army, including 2 Tours of Duty in Vietnam. He then worked as a mechanic at Akin Seed Company for 22 years. He was a member of the VFW, Elks, Moose, and the Eagles.Survivors include a son: Jeff Higgins of Fayetteville, NC, a daughter: Gayla Smith of Saugatuck, MI, 2 brothers: Bill Higgins of Lawrenceville, IL, Marlin Higgins of Lawrenceville, IL, 2 sisters: Mary Moore of Lawrenceville, IL, Donna Kay Stevenson of Woodstock, GA, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. 4 brothers and 2 sisters are deceased.The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Charlottsville Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home.Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.
