Daniel L. Odle

Daniel L. Odle, 86, of Camby, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Dan was born June 12, 1940, in St. Francisville, Illinois, to Daniel L. Odle and Audrey (Beard) Ireland, both of whom preceded him in death. He graduated from St. Francisville High School in 1958.

On August 11, 1962, Dan married Margaret (Goodlink) Odle. Together they shared 64 years of marriage, building a life filled with family, friendships, hard work, community, and countless memories. Margaret was the love of Dan’s life and his constant companion through all of those years.

Dan was a hardworking man who took great pride in whatever he put his hand to. His career included six years in highway construction, 13 years as a pipefitter, and 10 years at St. Francisville Bank followed by 10 years at Peoples Bank in Lawrenceville. After moving to Camby, Indiana, in 2001, Dan continued his banking career part-time until his retirement.

But perhaps what Dan will be remembered for most was the way he gave of himself to his community. He believed in being involved, helping others, and making his hometown a better place. He served as chairman of the St. Francisville Chestnut Festival Committee for 10 years and served on the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital Board, St. Francisville School Board, Community Unit School District #20 School Board, and Lawrence County Country Club Board.

Dan was a member of the Masonic Lodge in St. Francisville for more than 50 years. He was also a Shriner and a member of the Elks Club. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, of which he belonged for more than 40 years.

Dan enjoyed life and made the most of his time away from work and community service. He loved to golf, bowl, hunt, and fish. He was particularly proud of his collection of Native American artifacts. He enjoyed being outdoors, being around people, and, most of all, spending time with the people he loved.

To his family, Dan was so much more than the things he accomplished. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. His daughter, Janie and son in law John, and grandson, Daniel, were a tremendous source of love and pride in his life. He treasured his family and the time they shared together.

Dan was a man who believed in showing up—for his family, his friends, his church, and his community. He spent his life working hard, helping others, and building relationships that lasted for decades. His years of service and the many lives he touched are a lasting part of his legacy.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Janie Ann Odle and Darleene Champagne; and his brother, David L. Odle.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Margaret (Goodlink) Odle; his daughter, Janie Ann (Odle) Lewis and her husband, John, of Mooresville, Indiana; and his grandson, Daniel E. Lewis, of Indianapolis, Indiana.

He is also survived by his sister, Clara Louise (Odle) Andree and her husband, Rick, of Texas; sisters-in-law, Sarah Taylor, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, and Janice Odle of Texas; brothers-in-law, George Griffin, of Bridgeport, Illinois, and James Champagne, of Texas; and many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

Dan lived a life of purpose, service, and love. He leaves behind 64 years of memories with his wife, a lifetime of memories with his daughter, son in law and grandson, and the respect and affection of the many people he served and called friends.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A visitation will be held at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois from 1-3 pm on Thursday September 17, 2026, followed by a Masonic service at 3 pm and a Memorial Service.
