Cynthia Hahn Stocker Lee, 94, Bridgeport, died at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Lawrence Community Healthcare Center, Bridgeport, IL.Cynthia was born in Poplar Grove, Illinois on March 31, 1915, the first child of Albert and Anna Stocker.  She graduated from Belvidere High School as Salutatorian and then attended Rockford Business College before enrolling at the University of Illinois where she graduated in 1937 with a degree in home economics.  She met the love of her life, James Robert Lee, when she was a senior at the university. After teaching school for three years in Fisher, IL, they were married in 1940.  Their marriage lasted for 61 years, and they had three children: Betsy, Richard and David.After several years of child-rearing, Cynthia returned to teaching and taught kindergarten in Grayville, IL for 20 years.  She thoroughly enjoyed teaching children and giving to others.  Her service to others included serving as choir director in the Zion United Methodist Church (where she was a long time member), serving as a volunteer at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville for a number of years and teaching piano lessons. They lived in West Salem for 41 years until moving to the United Methodist Village, Lawrenceville, where they became members of the First United Methodist Church. Following Bobâs death in 2003, Cynthia moved to Robinson to be near family and ultimately moved to the Lawrenceville Community Healthare Center in Bridgeport where she resided at the time of her death.She loved playing the piano, church, family and her friends, and was a wonderful grandmother to her six grandchildren, who will all miss her:  Matthew Coale (Renee), Vancouver, WA; Rebecca Skloot, Memphis, TN; Darla Doan (Keith), Carbondale, IL; Stephanie and Stacey Benton, Robinson, IL; and Darrin Lund, Champaign, IL. Her three children and their spouses survive her:  Betsy McCarthy (Terry), Vancouver, WA; Richard Lee (Joyce), Champaign; and David Lee (Frances) of Robinson. Also surviving are two great grandchildren: Nicholas Coale, Auburn, WA and Justin Coale, Vancouver, WA.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Alberta Knorr, Vero Beach, FL, and two brothers; Noel Stocker, Arlington, VA and Lyle Stocker, West Bend, WI.A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Zion United Methodist Church in West Salem, Illinois, at 1 pm on Saturday, December 5. Memorial donations may be made to the church.
