Chester ‘Junior’ Clifford Smith, Jr.

Chester ‘Junior’ Clifford Smith, Jr., age 87, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, May 05, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on October 01, 1936 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the son of Chester, Sr. and Anna Pearl (Devin) Smith. He married Ellen Akers on October 18, 1956, and she survives.

Junior served his country in the United States Air Force and worked for Union Carbide in Robinson, Illinois. He enjoyed taking care of cattle, farming, mowing the lawn, riding his 4-wheeler and motorcycle, and sitting outside in his swing. His family and friends will remember him always being a jokester and a tormentor.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Don Smith and Kenny Devin; and two sisters, Karen Armstrong and Gloria Mayfield.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Debbie Anderson Smith of Mt. Vernon, Indiana and Terri Ray of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one granddaughter, Heidi Meeks and husband, Chris of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one great-grandson, Jake Meeks; two sisters-in-law, Carole Smith and Becca Devin; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 09, 2024 at 2:00 PM CDT at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be on Thursday from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM CDT at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Derr Cemetery.
