Cherrie L. Caughran, age 70, of Flat Rock, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at her residence. She was born April 17, 1956 in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the daughter of George H. Brown and Mary Lamb Brown. She married Kenneth Caughran, Jr. February 8, 1974, and he survives.

Cherrie was a dedicated registered nurse who devoted more than thirty years of service to Good Samaritan Hospital, where she compassionately cared for countless patients and families throughout her career. Outside of her profession, Cherrie embraced life’s simple pleasures and treasured time spent with those she loved. She enjoyed horseback riding, kayaking, camping, gardening, antiquing, and visiting flea markets in search of unique treasures. Cherrie especially loved picking berries and going on adventures with her grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will be remembered for years to come. She also found joy in “piddling” around the home and spending time outdoors. An accomplished baker, Cherrie was well known for her delicious pies, which she lovingly shared with family and friends.

Preceding Cherrie in death were her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Ken; children, Kenneth Gail “K.G.” (Misty Klein) Caughran III of Lawrenceville, Adehla Michelle Buchanan (Isaac Dyke) of Stoy, Eric (Sara) Caughran of Lawrenceville, Jesse (Amber) Caughran of Flat Rock; grandchildren, Kayden Caughran, Kyler Caughran, Klaya Caughran, Isaac (Olivia) Coleman, Lucas (Alauna) Coleman, Ashlynne (Landon) Roy, Rylee Caughran (Logan Miller), Addison Caughran, Taylor Caughran, Nicole Klein, Ophelia Klein, Bergen Klein, Persy Klein; great-grandchildren, River Coleman, Mary Coleman, Ellie Coleman, Luke Coleman, Madeline Coleman, Kennedy Roy, Hunter Roy; horse-riding friend, Angie Steffey.

Private services are being conducted.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mending Broken Bits located in Flat Rock or Gaitway to Motion located in Claremont.
