Charles Wayne Tarr, Sr., died December 1, 2015, at his residence in Sumner, Illinois, with his family by his side. Charles was born January 14, 1925, to Levi and Aminta "Minnie" (Vanderhuff) Tarr. He married Fredda (Hawley) Tarr on March 28, 1946.
Charlie served in the United States Army Air Corps, and was a World War II veteran. He spent most of his life working in the oil fields, and retired in 1989 from Farmers Crude. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Bridgeport. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and enjoyed his grandchildren.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 70 years, Fredda, of Sumner; three sons, Charles Tarr, Jr. and wife Janet of Cypress, Texas, James Tarr and wife Penny of Grand Junction, Colorado, Morris "Bud" Tarr and wife Debbee of Tomball, Texas, and one daughter Deborah (Tarr) Fiscus and husband Marvin of Sumner, Illinois; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and several close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and six brothers.
Visitation will be from 12-2 PM Friday at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner.
Funeral services will begin at 2 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Final resting place will be in Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of cards and flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Good Samaritan Hospice of Vincennes, Indiana. Envelopes will be made available through the funeral home.
