Billie Rae Brian, age 88, of Sumner, Illinois, passed away at his residence on Thursday, June 25, 2015. He was born January 25, 1927, in Lukin Township, the son of Ralph and Flossie (Shick) Brian. He married Carolyn Sue Lewis on December 24, 1948, and they were married for 66 years.
Billie attended Sumner High School. Billie joined the Merchant Marines at age 16, later joining the Army serving in WWII with the 74th Constabulary Division He attended Sumner United Methodist Church.
Billie was a member of Christy Fire Department for 37 years and served as Assistant Fire Chief and Captain during his tenure with the fire department. He was also a DAV member and a lifetime member of Lawrenceville VFW.
Billie owned and operated various businesses through the years such as Bill's Pool Room and Café, Bargain Center Clothing, and B & M Meter Company. He was involved in oil production and development and was an active partner in businesses such as Elder Oil Company, Televest, Inc, and PetroVest, Inc Also, owned and operated Billie R. Brian Oil Producer Company.
He enjoyed coon and fox hunting and race cars. He was a frequent visitor at the Liar's Bench.
Preceding Billie in death were his parents; a son, Billie Joe Brian, and one sister, Freeda Jones.
Survivors include his wife, Sue, of Sumner; a son, Jerry (Pam) Brian of Sumner; two grandsons, Jed Brian (fiancee' Cassondra Kelly) of Sumner and Jake (Devin) Brian and two great-grandchildren, Bentley and Kenleigh Brian all of Sumner.
The family would like to thank Angela Diane Boyer for her faithful care and compassion for the past five years during Billie's illness.
Graveside services will be at 11 AM Monday at Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Sunday at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner.
Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery in Claremont.
Memorials donations may be made to Christy Township Fire Department.
