Betty Lou Wells

Betty Lou Wells, age 88, of Vincennes, Indiana, formerly of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at her residence. She was born on August 16, 1935 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the daughter of Roy M. and Mildred (Miller) Jerrell. She married Merle R. Wells, Sr. on June 18, 1954, and he preceded her in death on April 09, 2016.

Betty was a homemaker, and enjoyed baking wedding and birthday cakes for her friends and family for over 46 years. She was a member of and very involved with the 4th Street Wesleyan Christian Church in Lawrenceville, where she served as the missionary treasurer and secretary. Along with her husband, they decorated the church throughout the years, and were involved in the bus ministry. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, and loved her children and grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; step-mother, Helen Jerrell; husband; one brother, Richard Jerrell; and one son, Merle Wells, Jr.

Survivors include four children, Sharon Jones and husband, Jerry of Vincennes, Indiana, Bruce Wells and wife, Janet of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Richard Wells and wife, Gina of Centerville, Ohio, and Danny Wells and wife, Dawn of Yuba City, California; one daughter-in-law, Cathy Wells of Bargersville, Indiana; one sister-in-law, Bertha Jerrell of Vincennes, Indiana; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 19, 2024 at 11:00 AM CST at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be conducted on Sunday from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM CST at the funeral home. Burial will be in the May Chapel Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the 4th Street Wesleyan Christian Church.
