Betty 'B.J.' Stevenson

Betty J. ‘B.J.' Stevenson, 84, of Bridgeport, Illinois, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the United Methodist Village-North Campus in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was born May 30, 1932 in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the daughter of Lester and Melissa (Davis) Gray. She was married to Arnold L. Stevenson and he preceded her in death on July 12, 2014. B.J. worked at the Texaco Credit Union for 20 years as a bookkeeper before retiring in 1990 as manager. During her retirement, B.J. enjoyed wintering in Florida, playing golf, traveling, and enjoying her grandkids. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Christian Church, the Ladies Golf Association, and the Ladies Moose Club. Preceding B.J. in death were her parents and her husband, Arnold. Survivors include her sons, Gary (Susan) Stevenson of Panama City, Florida, Keith (Carolynn) Stevenson of Vincennes, Indiana, and Jack (Linda) Senger of Sumner, Illinois; her daughters, Cathy (Steve) Smith of Albion, Illinois and Trudy (Phil) Benefiel of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; her sisters, Dorothy Jean Willis of Van Buren, Indiana and Mary Lou Pointon of Bridgeport, Illinois; 14 grandchildren, Brian Stevenson, Kristen Hammond, Erin Neer, Cheryl Connelley, Tim Senger, Tom Senger, Teresa Smith, Michelle Turner, Amy Zachary, Joshua Stevenson, Dylan Benefiel, Jake Smith, Halie Smith, and Tyler Smith; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, June 20 at 12:00 PM CST at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Monday prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM CST at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Pleasant Ridge Christian Church or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
