Barbara A. Whaley, age 80 of Lawrenceville, passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, IL. She was born September 30, 1930 in Lawrenceville, the daughter of Benjamin and May (Drake) Smith. She married Robert A. Whaley, June 21, 1953 and he preceded her in death May 27, 2002.
Barbara worked as a registered nurse until retirement. She worked for Dr. Illyes and then the United Methodist Village. Barbara was in the first graduating class of nursing from Good Samaritan Hospital Nursing Program.
Barbara was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed playing with her Bridge Club. She was also an avid fan of Kentucky Wild Cats.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, and one sister.
Survivors include three daughters Linda Lyle (Jim) of rural Lawrenceville, IL, Bobbie Davis (Rick) of Newburgh, IN, and Carol Bowlin (Kenneth) of Vincennes, IN; two brothers Don Smith of Texas and David Smith (Vickie) of Grayville, IL; three sisters Carolyn Bell (Harry) of Texas, Garnett Oster of Arizona, Virginia Bonnette of Washington, IN; six grandchildren Amy Bousley (Doug), Jim Lyle (Chas), Brian Davis (Jen), Laura Davis-Reidford (Ryan), Kristie Fisher (Keith) and Kim Devonshire (Drew), as well as seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Tuesday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Burial in Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
