Barbara 'Joan' Childress

Barbara ‘Joan' Childress, 87, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Monday, January 28, 2019 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was born November 14, 1931 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas A. and Louisa (Sumner) Diver. She married Billie Lee Childress on August 4, 1948 and he preceded her in death on September 19, 1984. Joan was a loving mother and homemaker. She enjoyed reading and being with her family. Her memberships included the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the Lawrence County Home Extension. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; three brothers, Pat, Tom, and Joe; four sisters, Ruth Diver, Dorothy Whitmarsh, Mary Curts, and Virginia Mullins; and special friend, Roger Leighty. Survivors include three sons, Dave Childress and wife, Vicki, of Vincennes, Indiana, Dan Childress and wife, Laura, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, and Tom Childress and friend, Kim Balding of Newburgh, Indiana; four daughters, Barbara Mayer of Sarasota, Florida, Karen Hilker and husband, Dean, of Ocala, Florida, Teri Hardiman and husband, Darvin, of Vincennes, Indiana, and Julie Bootman and husband, Marty, of San Angelo, Texas; two sisters, Gerry Cannon of Lawrenceville, Illinois and Louise Diver of Lawrenceville, Illinois; ten grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, February 1, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
