Arthur L. Russell, 88, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville.Born January 16, 1921 in Sullivan, IN he was the son of William and Julia (Bass) Russell. He married Frances L. Morris and she survives.Arthur was a veteran of WWII and retired from the army after 28 years of service as a Sgt. Major. He then worked an additional 12 years for the federal government in Washington, D.C. He was an avid golfer and gardener who also enjoyed fishing and hunting.Survivors include his wife Frances; three daughters Elaine Lyles of Champaign, IL, Teresa Berrios of Killeen, TX and Vicki Russell of Arlington, VA; two sisters Barbara Redmond of Mt. Holly Springs, PA and Eleanor Morris of rural Lawrenceville, IL; two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, 1303-12th Street, Lawrenceville, IL. Burial will follow in the Portee Cemetery, Pinkstaff, IL.Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 noon until the hour of service at 2:00 pm.
