Biography
Amy Arlene Heath, age 92, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Monday, August 19, 2013 at the United Methodist Village-North Campus in Lawrenceville. She was born May 11, 1921.
She was married to Carl Leo Baldwin for 46 years. He preceded her in death in 1979. Amy then married James F. Heath in 1987. He also preceded her in death in 1995.
Also preceding her in death were her sisters Ruth and Pauline and her brothers Carl, Arthur Jr and Edmund.
She is survived by a daughter: Joan Baldwin, and a granddaughter: Amy Darlene
In 1957, she went to work at W.T. Grand department store in Elkhart, Indiana and was employed until she moved to Lake Wawassee, Indiana in 1962.
From 1962-1968, she operated her radio as volunteer backup for Bunker Hill Air Force base (now Grissom AFB) at Kokomo, Indiana. She wore Air Force earphones and was on the A.F. MARS frequency as AFA9YIC. She handled logs of messages and ran phone patches for aircraft. In 1968, she was appointed Indiana's phone patch station for Navy MARS and operated as Indiana's only phone patch operator to the naval base in the Philippines. She made a lot of parents happy running phone patches to their loved ones. In the 1980s, Amy was a freelance clown named "Tinkerbell" and went to abused children's homes and nursing homes. She enjoyed making people happy. She spent 10 years as a clown. She also was the Easter bunny for five years at ORA RV Park in Florida and she visited nursing homes and senior citizen's homes.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday at Lawrenceville City Cemetery. There is no visitation.
