Wilbur Hugh Pelham, age 94, of rural Sumner, Illinois, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018 at his residence. He was born February 03, 1924 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the son of Roy Levi Pelham and Ruth Jane Crouch Pelham. He married Elsie Frances Mieure November 04, 1951, and she survives.
Wilbur was a pumper for Texaco Refinery and retired after 35 years of service. Wilbur and his wife Elsie farmed and raised Hereford cattle for many years. He was a member of the Union Chapel Church. Wilbur was a World War II Army Veteran, where he served in the Pacific Theatre. He enjoyed playing baseball in his youth and could be found watching his favorite team, the Chicago Cubs.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Richard, Roy, Philip; and one sister, Mary Hansen.
Survivors include: his wife of 67 years, Elsie; one son, Michael Paul Pelham and wife Lora Janee of Franklin, Indiana; and one granddaughter, Hannah Renee Pelham, who was the joy of his life. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services for Wilbur will be Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. CST at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour of 12:00p.m. CST. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside. Memorial donations in Wilbur's honor may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice.
