Jesse Gowin Obituary
Jesse Eugene Gowin, 83, of Flat Rock, Illinois passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Aperion Care in Bridgeport, Illinois. He was born on November 20, 1933 in Crawford County, Illinois, the son of Jesse Singleton Gowin and Viola Myrtle Hopkins. He married Bessie G. Tomlinson on February 18, 1967 and she preceded him in death on January 19, 2013.
Jesse was a 1952 graduate of Bridgeport Township High School. He worked for Texaco Refinery and Sheehan Pipe Line Construction Company. He was also a farmer and a postal carrier. His memberships included the American Legion in both Flat Rock and Lawrenceville, Kingdom Builders Church Group, and Flat Rock Christian Church. He also attended New Hebron Christian Church and Bethany Christian Church. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Marines.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Carol Dee Gowin; and four sisters, Fern Miller, Virginia Holly, Bessie Mariah, and Carolyn Lee Gowin.
Survivors include one brother, Walter Gowin of Bridgeport, Illinois; one sister, Grace Cafin of Duncanville, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will be in the Whitehouse Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jesse's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Flat Rock Christian Church.
