Harold S. ‘Hokey' Wimbley, 65, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018 at his residence. He was born June 3, 1952 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the son of Joseph Clifford and Thelma Josephine (Mitchell) Wimbley. He married Karen Tolliver on July 23, 1990 and she survives.
Steve worked for Marathon Oil Company in the field and then transferred to Marathon Oil Refinery as an operator. He served his country in the United States Air Force in the Vietnam War. He was also a mechanic with his father in earlier years. His memberships included the St. James AME Church, Elk's, and Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed fishing, attending sporting events and concerts with his grandchildren, and traveling with Karen. His grandchildren were his heart and soul.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; Rich Kramer and wife, Tonya, of Newburgh, Indiana and Jeremy Mack of Lawrenceville, Illinois who he fondly referred to as his ‘kids'; two brothers, Don Wimbley and wife, Sandra, of Fairport, New York and Maurice ‘Moe' Wimbley and wife, Ruthie, of Casey, Illinois; foster brother, Sylvester Glosson, and wife, Sue, of Clearwater, Florida; five grandchildren, Clayton, Cameron, Cadin, Sydney, and Sophia who referred to him as PaPaw; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM CST at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM CST at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Portee Cemetery with military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Steve's memory may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Good Samaritan Hospice, or Lawrence County Humane Society.
