Dwight Eaton Obituary

Dwight L. Eaton, 89, of Lawrence County, Illinois passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the United Methodist Village-North Campus in Lawrenceville, Illinois. He was born December 27, 1927 in Chauncey, Illinois, the son of T. F. and Verl (Nuttall) Eaton. On December 2, 1950, he married Billie Westall and she preceded him in death on July 5, 2008.

Dwight was a farmer his whole life, and ran a custom spray business. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the United States Army with the 297th Engineers as Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in Marysville, California and also in Anchorage, Alaska. He was a member of the National Shoot to Retrieve Association and served with the Unit 10 School District as President. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; sharing stories and jokes. He was known for his delicious fried fish and quail dinners. Dwight was active in his community. He was always available to help a neighbor. Hobbies he also enjoyed through the years included raising and showing Shetland Pony's; as well as breeding and training English Setters, German Pointers and Border Collies. He loved fishing and hunting and had a great appreciation for the land. He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada. While participating in NSTR he placed in numerous meets and his dog, Hope, was a Grand Champion.

Surviving are four daughters: Kathy Cranmer and her husband, Michael, of Littleton, Colorado, Connie Williams of Indianapolis, Indiana, Tracy Pinkham and her husband, Thomas, of Sevierville, Tennessee, and Patti Totten and her husband, Dennis, of Olney, Illinois; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by his sister, Katy Utterback.

There will be a time of gathering for friends and family for a luncheon and fellowship on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 12:00 PM CST at the Chauncey Community Center.

Memorial donations may be given to the Chauncey Community Center.
