Frank Weiss Obituary
Frank E. Weiss, age 84, of Sumner, Illinois passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born October 3, 1935 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the son of Joseph P. and Olive (Senters) Weiss. He married Joyce Cook on July 15, 1961 and she survives.
Frank loved to travel and was always up for an adventure. Throughout their 58 years of marriage, he and his wife traveled all over the United States, and spent many years wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama. During these years, they formed many special friendships, that continued long after they stopped traveling. Anyone who knew him would tell you he was a hard worker and a man with many talents. He could fix or build anything and could often be found in his shop. He was always there to lend a hand or just an opinion to his sons on projects. In addition, he was a beekeeper for fifty plus years and was so proud to pass the love of beekeeping to his daughter and granddaughter. They fondly refer to him as the ‘bee whisperer'. He was a lover of nature and enjoyed watching the wildlife on his farm. First and foremost, he loved his wife and family. He was so very proud of all of his children and grandchildren and always enjoyed their large family gatherings. He retired from Marathon and was a lifelong farmer.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, LaVern Weiss.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; three children, Scott Weiss and wife, Delores, Mark Weiss and wife, Kassie, and Lisa Curts and husband, Joe, all of Sumner, Illinois; six grandchildren, Macee Weiss, Kaeli Bell and husband, Jacob, Kierstin Weiss, Kazia Frederick, Briley Frederick, and Sydney Curts; and three great-grandchildren, Brenden Mattingly, Lilly Bell, and Ellie Bell.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 12:00 PM at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. A visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
