Emma Deckard Obituary

Emma Lou Deckard, age 77, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Friday, November 29, 2019 at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was born on January 2, 1942 in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the daughter of Bernie and Letha (Harvey) Griggs.

Emma worked at West Grove as a care taker. She also worked at the United Methodist Village as a secretary and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was voted Pancake Queen in high school. She was very academically inclined. She enjoyed rummage sales, cookouts with family, playing euchre, and cooking. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Annie Nasser, and Virginia Sanders; three brothers, George Griggs, Freddie Griggs, and Bernard Griggs.

Survivors include six children, Cara Lee King of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Jeannie Kay Shick of rural Lawrenceville, Illinois, Stacie Lynn Guite of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Ronnie D. Deckard of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Larry Joe Deckard of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Steven Craig Deckard of Lawrenceville, Illinois; three brothers, Bernie Joe Griggs and wife, Kathy, of Bridgeport, Illinois, Roger Griggs of Lawrenceville, Illinois, and Mark Griggs and wife, Barbara, of Lawrenceville, Illinois; three sisters, Gloria Goff and husband, Jerry, of Jasper, Indiana, Gaye Abel and husband, Greg, of Vincennes, Indiana, and Jerrie Owens and husband, Kenny, of Vincennes, Indiana; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 11:00am at the White House Cemetery. There is no visitation. Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
