Biography

Shirley Winifred “Winnie” Ford, 92, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Thursday July 12, 2012 at Lawrence Community Health Care in Bridgeport, IL.

She was born October 17, 1919 in Lawrence County, IL to Kenneth M. and Bertha L. (Pinkstaff) Davis. Winnie married Charles L. Ford of Lawrenceville, IL on May 11, 1941 in the Methodist Church in Palmyra, Missouri.

Winnie lived her entire life in Lawrenceville, graduating from Lawrence Township High School in 1937. She worked at Suttle Equipment Company and for the Lawrence County News/Daily Record. She was a member of the Lawrence County Country Club, the DAR, Lawrence County Women’s Club, and the Elks. She was a Girl Scout Leader, and Cub Scout Leader. She was also a member of the Literacy Program, Red Cross, Friends of the Library Board, and a volunteer teachers’ aid for 12 years. She loved to play golf and bridge with her friends and walking. She also loved spending time with all of her family playing cards, games and visiting.

She is survived by her husband: Charles L. Ford of Lawrenceville, IL, a grandson: Bob Ford of Imperial, MO, great-grandsons: Alex and Owen Ford of Imperial, MO, a sister: Edythe B. Davis Fisher of Lawrenceville, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sons: Lindsay Davis Ford Sr., and Steven Charles Ford, grandson: Lindsay Davis Ford, Jr. and her sister Rayburn Davis Eshelman.

A Graveside Service will be conducted Monday July 30, 2012 at 10:30am at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to The Special Olympics at 1516 South Brentwood Blvd St. Louis, MO 63144.
