Virginia Akers Obituary
Virginia L Akers, 94, of Sumner, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Richland Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 17, 1921 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the daughter of William H. and Cynthia Fern (Fyffe) Holsen. She married Harold L. Akers on July 27, 1946 and he preceded her in death on July 15, 1977.
Virginia worked at George Field Station Hospital (1943-1946), Lawrence County Memorial Hospital (1960-1965), and Red Hill Nursing Home (1967-1982). She loved to piece and quilt many quilts for family and friends, as well as at the Senior Citizens. She also loved to travel, and the Holy Land trip was her favorite. She was a member of the Sumner Congregational Christian Church in Sumner, Illinois.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; grandson, Mark White; and sister, Lucretia Lichte.
Survivors include her daughters, Judy and Jay Dee White and Jane and Ronnie Inyart, all of Sumner, Illinois; three grandchildren, Brant and Ginger White of Olney, Illinois, Jennifer and Brian Emmons of Sumner, Illinois, and Jason Inyart of Sumner, Illinois; four great-grandchildren, Emily and Michael Clettenberg of St. Francisville, Illinois, Hilary White of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Adam Emmons of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Jacob Emmons of Sumner, Illinois; and one great-great-grandchild, Ethan White of Olney, Illinois.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 11 at 11:30 AM at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Bridgeport City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Virginia's memory may be made to Richland Memorial Hospital, Long Term Care at 800 East Locust Street in Olney, Illinois 62450.
