Shirley Hills Obituary

Shirley L. Hills, 84, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Monday, February 27, 2017 at the United Methodist Village-North Campus in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was born on September 26, 1932 in Billett, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond C. ‘Dick' and Lena E. (Bogard) Swarens. She married Edward L. Hills on April 13, 1952 and he preceded her in death on November 18, 2013.

Shirley was a clerk at Golden Rule Insurance for 27 years, worked at Tohill & Gosnell Abstract for 15 years, and a receptionist for Cra-Wa-La VIP for three years. She was a member of both the Lawrence County Business and Professional Women's Club and 4-H. She served as an election judge in Lawrence County and was of Christian faith.

Preceding her in death were her parents; former husband, Edward; three brothers, Richard L. Swarens, Sr., Jackie R. Swarens, and Daniel W. Swarens; and one infant sister.

Survivors include one brother, William R. ‘Billy' Swarens of Manteno, Illinois; three sisters, Patricia A. Melcom of Sumner, Illinois, Clara M. Koon and husband, Ray, of Olney, Illinois, and Donna R. Wessel and husband, Charlie, of Jasper, Indiana; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Graveside services will be Friday, March 3, 2017 at 1:00 PM CST at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery in Lawrenceville, Illinois. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Shirley's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
