Samuel Berry Obituary

Samuel M. Berry, 88, of Nile Mile Point, Louisiana, formerly of Lawrence County, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at his daughter's residence. He was born February 27, 1928 in Sumner, Illinois, the son of Zelus H. and Velveteen ‘Dolly' (Marx) Berry. He was married to Patricia Lee (DeLoriea) White-Berry who preceded him in death on May 13, 2004.

Sam worked for the Huntington Lock & Dam in Huntington, Indiana for seven years and was a Lock and Dam Operator on the Ohio River in Golconda, Illinois with the Army Corps of Engineers for 14 years. He was also a WWII and Korean War Navy veteran. His memberships included the American Legion, VFW-life member, and DAV-life member.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Patricia; son, Timothy Allan; two brothers, Dale and Lee; one sister, Betty Lou Poland; and one grandson, James Robert.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Copus and husband, Wayne, of Nile Mile Point, Louisiana; two step-sons, Stephen D. White and wife, Janice, of Virginia Beach, Virginia and David Michael White and wife, Jennifer, of Andrews, Indiana; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Coy, and Cody; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Monday, January 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM CST. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM CST at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Burial will be at Cresthaven Memorial Park in Claremont, Illinois; with military rites.
