Larry Meek Obituary

Larry L. Meek, 80, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Friday, July 7, 2017 at the United Methodist Village-Main Campus in Lawrenceville, Illinois. He was born February 5, 1937 in Olney, Illinois, the son of Harold Meek and Lorene Lackey Spangler. He married Rita Ostendorf November 10, 1955, and she survives.

Larry was a 1955 LTHS graduate and was an electrician at Texaco Refinery for 26 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ, where he was an elder. He was a firefighter for the Lawrence-Allison Fire Protection District and a 4-H leader for eight years. Larry was a commercial fisherman, avid CB radio operator and a Cubs fan. He also enjoyed raising produce and setting up at the Farmer's Market.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Rita; three sons, Kenneth Meek and wife, Sharon, of rural Lawrenceville, Illinois, John Meek and wife, Pamela, of rural St. Francisville, and Brian Meek and wife, Emma, of rural Lawrenceville, Illinois; one daughter, Trudy Brown and husband, Dan, of Olney, Illinois; one sister, Linda Schmitt of Lawrenceville, Illinois; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 10, 2017 at 3:00 PM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the May Chapel Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Alzheimer's Association.
