Imogene Christy Obituary
Imogene Christy, 90, of Sumner, Illinois passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born August 10, 1927 in Richland County, Illinois, the daughter of Elbie and Edna (Pepple) Baker. After her mother past away, her father remarried and Gladys (Moorehead) Baker became her step-mother. She married George L. Christy on July 30, 1950 and he preceded her in death on December 21, 2009.
Imogene was a school teacher. She taught all grades at Chauncey Grade School, 1st and 2nd grades from 1964-1986 at Bend School south of Oblong, and 1st grade at Oblong Grade School. She coached basketball, taught youth groups at Prairie Chapel, and was very active and giving to children and youth groups. She was a member of the Sumner United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Lawrence County Retired Teachers.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, George; and one great-grandchild, Samuel Shashack.
Survivors include one son, John Christy and wife, Pam, of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one daughter, Debbie Weger and husband, Jack, of Robinson, Illinois; three grandchildren, Kaci Shashack and husband, Ben, of Katy, Texas, Brandon Christy of Houston, Texas, and Jordan Weger of Robinson, Illinois; two step-grandchildren, Charles Salesman and wife, Lyndsey, of Lawrenceville, Illinois and Rachel Gibson of Vincennes, Indiana; four great-grandchildren, Bailee Shashack, Winifred Shashack, Lillian Shashack, and Meghan Shashack; and three step-great-grandchildren, Annalise Green, Stella Salesman, and Hendrix Owens.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 2:00 PM CST at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM CST at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cresthaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lawrence/Crawford Association for Exceptional Citizens.
