George Lathrop Obituary

George Lathrop, 80, of Reeds Spring, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at his residence. He was born July 28, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Lt. Colonel William George Edward and Jeanne Marie (Cutler) Lathrop.

George was an Epidemiologist, as well as a Colonel in the Air Force for 21 years. He had many contributions to medicine and awards for service in the military. He was a member of the American Contract Bridge League and enjoyed playing with Kay and his daughter, Ashley. He also spent his time on the family farm planting various trees and enjoying nature.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include five children, Ashley J. Norment, Katherine A. Lathrop, Gregory J. Lathrop, Jennifer A. Lathrop, and Jeffrey S. Lathrop; one brother, Timothy J. Lathrop; one sister, Stephanie J. Sparling; and two grandchildren, Dennis J. Norment and Megan Moore.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 12:00 PM CST at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM CST at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery with military rites. Per the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in George's memory may be made to the JC Bridge Club and mailed to 312 Benton Street, Jefferson City, Missouri 65101.
