Elmer Louis Zwilling, 97, of Sumner, Illinois, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital. He was born July 9, 1919 in Richland County, Illinois, the son of Frank and Mary (Kocher) Zwilling. He married Elfreida Irene Geiger on September 9, 1952 and she survives.
Elmer was the owner and operator of Sumner Grain, Inc. for over 55 years. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also an Army veteran, having served in World War II.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Cletus Zwilling, Bernard Zwilling, Cyril Zwilling, and Wilbert Zwilling; and sisters, Dorothy Kocher, Bernetta Hahn, Lorena Ginder, Irene Kocher, and Alice Ritz.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Michael Zwilling and wife, Janice, of Diamond, Ohio, Patrick Zwilling of Lake Villa, Illinois, Thomas Zwilling and wife, Margaret, of Lincoln, Illinois, and George Zwilling and wife, Sherrie, of Sumner, Illinois; daughter, Jane Ann Krout and husband, Keith, of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; brothers, Herman Zwilling and wife, Ethel, of rural Claremont, Illinois and Ralph Zwilling of Olney, Illinois; and grandchildren, Melissa Landera, Christina Zwilling, Matthew Zwilling, Shea Zwilling, Jacob Zwilling, Rachel Zwilling, Kevin Krout, and Daniel Krout.
A mass of Christian burial will be conducted on Monday, December 26, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceville, Illinois. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Stringtown, Illinois.
