COLTON WILLIAM KASINGER
NOVEMBER 13, 2008


Colton William Kasinger, infant, passed away Thursday November 13, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN.

He is survived by his mother and father: Shanda Lynn (Viehman) Kasinger and William "Willie" Kasinger of Lawrenceville, IL, brother: Dakota Kasinger and sister Brooklyn Kasinger both of Lawrenceville, IL, maternal grandparents: Ron and Melinda Viehman of Lawrenceville, IL, Maternal grandmother: Dorothy Viehman of Lawrenceville, IL, Paternal Grandparents: Tom and Debra Grogan of Lawrenceville, IL, William Lee Kasinger of Lawrenceville, IL, and paternal great grandparents: Urma Shidler of Lawrenceville, IL and Bertha Schroyer of lawrenceville, IL.

PAUL B. WELLS
NOVEMBER 8, 2008


Paul B. Wells, 83, of Bridgeport, IL, passed away November 8, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN.  Born April 2, 1925 in Lawrence County, IL, he was the son of Everett and Minnie (Doss) Wells.  He married LaVeta Lane, December 4, 1943 and she survives.

Paul was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Bridgeport.  He was a retired truck driver.  He worked for Marathon for 17 years.  He also drove a truck for JW express out of Vincennes and Refiners Transport.

He is survived by his wife LaVeta Wells of  Bridgeport; one son Gary Wells of Bridgeport; one daughter Darla Black of Newburgh, IN; one brother Sam Wells of Duquoin, IL; three sisters Madaline Tucker of Flat Rock, IL, Kathlene Harmon of Olney, IL and Helen Hughes of Ashmore, IL; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son Danny Wells; two brothers; and two sisters.

The funeral will be Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL.  Burial will follow in the Cresthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Claremont, IL.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

JAMES LEE ARNOLD
NOVEMBER 7, 2008


James Lee Arnold, 62, of Bridgeport, IL passed away November 7, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN.

Born September 5, 1946 in Lawrenceville, IL, he was the son of Everett D.  and Irene (Culp) Arnold.  He married Sylvia Darlene York and she survives.

James worked for Joule in Lawrenceville, IL as a millwright.  He was a member of the Moose, American Legion and the Red Hill Community Club.

He is survived by his wife Darlene of Bridgeport; his mother Irene Arnold of Lawrenceville; two sons Everett Arnold of St. Francisville, Il and Mike Arnold of Olney, IL; two daughters Jeannie Dailey of Evansville, IN and Irene Renee Patterson of Flemmingburg, KY; one brother David Arnold of Lawrenceville; two sisters Sharon Bowman of Bridgeport and Patricia Hockman of Lawrenceville, IL; three step-sons Billy Lewis of Claremont, IL, Matt Lewis of Willow Hill, IL and Mike Lewis of Bridgeport; and 13 grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his father and one granddaughter.

The funeral will be Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL.  Burial will follow in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

GARNET E. SEITZINGER
NOVEMBER 6, 2008


Garnet E. Seitzinger, 93, of Vincennes, IN passed away Thursday evening November 6, 2008 at Lodge of the Wabash in Vincennes, IN.

Born September 10, 1915 in Crawford County, IL she was the daughter of Nathaniel L. and Florence (Smith) Lindsay. On September 10,1933 she married George Seitzinger. He died October of 1971.

Garnet was a school bus driver in the Birds School District. She was also a waitress and had worked as a cashier at Winn-Dixie. She worked at the church daycare after retiring. She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Vincennes, IN.

She is survived by a son: Rex and wife Sue Seitzinger of Lawrenceville, IL, a daughter: Louise Sechrest of Vincennes, IN, and 6 grandchildren: Janet and William Woods, Vicki and john Brink, Mark Butcher, Deana and Doug Camden, and Kevin and Judy Seitzinger. 2 brothers and a granddaughter: Susan Seitzinger are deceased.

The funeral will be Monday at 9:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will be at the St. Paul Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00pm at the funeral home.

KATHRYN MAYFIELD
NOVEMBER 4, 2008


Kathryn "Katie" Mayfield, 77, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Tuesday November 4, 2008 at the United Methodist Village North Campus.

She was born June 27, 1931 in Lawrenceville, IL the daughter of Wilbur and Lora (Gillard) Vaughn. On December 27, 1947 she married Ivan "Doc" Mayfield. He preceded her in death on December 25, 2002.

Katie was a homemaker and also worked at Mayfield Appliance. She was a member of the Lawrence County Country Club where she was President of the Ladies Golf Assn. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville, IL.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Stephanie "Stevie" Miller of Indianapolis, IN, Denise "Dennie" Heidbreder of Lawrenceville, IL, a sister: Amelia Irwin of Florida, and 4 grandchildren. 2 brothers and a sister are deceased.

The funeral will be Saturday at 12:00pm at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation is also Saturday from 10:30am until the service hour of 12:00pm.

YVONNE WRIGHT
NOVEMBER 1, 2008


Yvonne Wright, 93, of Lawrenceville passed away Saturday November 1, 2008 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.

She was born January 7, 1915 in Jasper County, IL the daughter of Byrl and Lodema (Scaggs) Meek. On October 18, 1930 she married James Wright Sr. He preceded her in death on August 29, 1994.

She was Manager of The Three Sisters Sewing factory in Lawrenceville. She attended the Wesleyan Church 6th St. in Lawrenceville. She was a member of the Eagles Auxilary.

She is survived by a son: James W. Wright Jr. of Champaign, IL, 2 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister are deceased.

The funeral will be Thursday November 6, 2008 at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation is also Thursday from 12:00 to the srevice hour of 1:00pm.

ROSS M. MONTGOMERY
OCTOBER 29, 2008


Ross M. Montgomery, 74, of Lawrenceville, passed away at his residence October 29, 2008 at 2:06 a.m.  He was born October 3, 1934 in Crawford County, IL, the son of Charles and Daisy (Hightshoe) Montgomery.

Ross worked as an operating engineer for Local 841 out of Terre Haute, IN.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include three sons Mike Montgomery, Ross Montgomery, Jr., and Mark Montgomery all of Lawrenceville; one daughter Greta Jean Tracy of Flat Rock, IL; one brother Richard Montgomery of Robinson, IL; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville with visiting hours from 12:00 (noon) until the hour of service on Saturday.

EARL LAVERN "CURLY" UMFLEET
OCTOBER 27, 2008


Earl Lavern Umfleet, 78, of Sumner, IL passed away Monday October 27, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN.

He was born July 8, 1930 in Claremont, IL the son of Vernice H. and Stella Mae (Thomas) Umfleet. On January 27, 1951 he married Lois Marie Collins. She survives.

He is also survived by 5 daughters: Teresa Parker of Bloomington, IN, Jeri May of Dietrich, IL, Darla Nicewander of Sumner, IL, Annie Kiser of Sumner, IL, Susan Farris of Elkmont, AL, a sister: Janette Adkison of Indianapolis, IN, 17 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 19 great -grandchildren, and 5 step great-grandchildren.

He was retired from the United States Army, where he served in Vietnam. He also was an electrician. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

The funeral will be Friday at 2:00pm at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sumner Cemetery. Visitation is also Friday from 12:00pm until the service hour of 2:00pm.

CHARLES HAROLD MUSHRUSH
OCTOBER 26, 2008

Charles Harold Mushrush, 90, passed away Sunday October 26, 2008 at United Methodist Village North Campus in Lawrenceville, IL.

Born February 3, 1918 in Lawrenceville, IL, he was the son of Bert and Ella (Kiplinger) Mushrush. On May 15, 1943 he married Mary Ford. She preceded him in death on March 10, 2005.

He is survived by several nephews and a niece.

He was retired from Texaco Refinery.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation is also Thursday from 9:00 until the service hour of 11:00am.

HUGH L. JONES
OCTOBER 26, 2008


Hugh L. Jones, 80, of Lawrenceville, Il passed away Sunday October 26, 2008 at the United Methodist Village North campus in Lawrenceville, IL.

He was born May 9, 1928 in Crawford Co., IL the son of Jess D. and Emma B. (Ferguson) Jones. On August 19, 1951 he married Norma Lee Waggoner. She survives.

Hugh worked at Texaco Refinery as a Supervisor of Operations and retired after 32 years. He was owner/operator of Jones Modern Landscaping, which he started in 1969. He was a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion, and served in the United States Army during WWII. He graduated from Oblong High School.

Along with his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Jan and husband Bill Welsh of Highland Heights, OH, 3 sisters: Bernice Sanders of Oblong, IL, Faye Weger of Terre Haute, IN, Lanora Satterfield of Lawrenceville, IL, grandchildren: Megan and Andrew Hugh Welsh, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday at 10:00am at the Bridgeport United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00pm at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

MARTHA LEE CULLOM
OCTOBER 25, 2008


Martha Lee Cullom, 88, formerly of Auburn, IL died Saturday October 25, 2008 at Lewis memorial Christian Village, Springfield, IL.

Martha was born March 2, 1920 in Flat Rock, IL the daughter of Alah and Blanche Smith McCarty. She married Charles W. Cullom in Hammond, IN in 1937. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter Janet (Wheeler) Pastrovitch, grandson Charles M. Cullom Jr. and a great-granddaughter Katie Cullom.
She is survived by 6 children: Donna Little of Bull Head City, AZ, Patricia Streeter of Acworth, GA, George W. (Marcia) Cullom of Highland,IN, Claudette (Tom) Hiler of Springfield, IL, Mary Susan Barker, of ND, 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday October 28, 2008 at 1:30pm at Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

OCTOBER 24, 2008

Virginia I. Cummins, 80, of Ft. Meyers, FL (fomerly of Lawrenceville)  passed away Friday October 24, 2008 at Hope Hospice and Health Park in Ft. Meyers, Fl.

She was born July 10, 1928 in Crawford County, IL. She was the daughter of Franklin and Velma (Spade) Tredway. On September 16, 1943 she married Paul Eugene Cummins. He passed away January 19, 1991.

She had worked at the Health Candy Company in Robinson and Lawrenceville Industries. She was an avid camper.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Diana and David Linton of Ft. Meyers, FL, Vaunie and Dean Hamilton of North Port, FL, 3 sisters: Doris Sanders of Lawrenceville, IL, Laura Bell of Flat Rock, IL, Betty Shelton of Flat Rock, IL, 4 grandchildren: Jeff and Loretta Smith, Michael and Amy Linton, Tiffany Moore, and Bryan and Rachel Hamilton, and 7 great-grandchildren. One great-grandson is deceased.

There will be a Graveside Service Saturday at 11:00am at the Derr Cemetery. There is no visitation.

JUDITH A. SEWARD
OCTOBER 24, 2008


Judith A. Seward, 68, or rural Lawrenceville, passed away at her residence, October 24, 2008.  She was born May 4, 1940 in Mt. Vernon, IL, the daughter of Bill and Vivian (Mannen) Miller.  She married Bill Seward June 15, 1958 and he survives.

Judy was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville.  She was also a member of the Country Club for 31 years, Women of the Moose, VFW Auxillary and she was an avid golfer.

Survivors include her husband (Bill); one son David (Jacki) Seward of rural Lawrenceville; two daughters Kathy (Jeff) Courtney and Beth LeBahn all of rural Lawrenceville; one sister Sharon Jones of Green Cove Springs, FL; and eight grandchildren.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Billie Gardner.

The funeral will be Monday at 10:00 am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the May Chapel Cemetery.

CHARLES P. HUDDLESTON
OCTOBER 23, 2008


Charles P. Huddleston, 82, of  Lawrenceville, IL passed away October 23, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, IN.  He was born July 29, 1926 in Lawrence County, IL the son of Aubrey E. and Martha Jane (Thompson) Huddleston.  He married Mildred Funke December 24, 1949 and she survives.

Charles was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lawrenceville.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a lifetime member of the Elks.  Charles worked as a manager for Illinois Gas Company where he had worked for 46 years before retiring.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Survivors include his wife (Mildred); two daughters Kathleen (Jesse) Keyser of Edwardsville, IL and Susan (Matthew) Berg of La Grange, IL, as well as four grandchildren.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:00 am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

OCTOBER 21, 2008


Robert J. Wells, 85, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away October 21, 2008 at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, IL.  He was born September 8, 1923 in Lawrenceville, IL, the son of Otto and Nellie (Jones) Wells. 

Robert served in the United States Army during WWII.  He worked as a truck driver for V.O. Parrott and was a life time member of the VFW.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include a daughter Misty (Robert) Henson of Lawrenceville; one brother Merle (Betty) Wells of Lawrenceville; one sister Vera (Eugene) Cokley of St. Charles, MO; and two grandchildren.

The body is being cremated.  No services are scheduled.

DAVID A. BUNTING
OCTOBER 20, 2008


David A. Bunting, 71, of Sumner, Il passed away Monday October 20, 2008 at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, IL.

He was born May 6, 1937 in Lawrence County, IL the son of Glen Albert and De Etta (Brown) Bunting. He was married to Shirley Alvord. She is deceased.

Surviving are 2 sons: Roy A. Bunting of Carolina, Puerto Rico, Michael D. Bunting of Fort Irwin, CA, a step-son: James Alvord of Noble, IL, a sister: Cynda (Stephen) Van Cleve of Lakeland, FL, and 2 grandchildren.

David was a retired heavy equipment operator and over the road truck driver. He served in the United States Navy. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

The funeral will be Thursday at 12:00pm at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sumner Cemetery. Visitation is also on Thursday from 10:30am until the service hour of 12:00noon.

ROBERT LEE KIMMEL
OCTOBER 18, 2008


Robert L. Kimmel, 85, of Sumner, IL passed away October 18, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, IN.

Born January 11, 1923 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Clyde and Audrey (Rife) Kimmel.  He married Ruby Mieure November 11, 1945 and she died December 23, 2003.  He married his second wife Gladys Inyart and she survives.

Robert worked at the Texaco Refinery as a foreman for 31 years.  He was a member of the Sumner United Methodist Church.  Robert served in the Army during WWII and earned three bronze stars and a bronze star medal.

Survivors include his second wife Gladys; one son Dennis Kimmel and wife Judy of Sumner; two daughters Marilyn Vowels and husband Robert of  rural Sumner and Phyllis Kimmel of Plainfield, IN; one brother Dale Kimmel and wife Nena of Tampa, FL; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ruby; one brother John Kimmel and one sister Louise Reinbold.

The visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be Wednesday at 1:30 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Cresthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Claremont.

MARGARET IRENE (REID) THACKER
OCTOBER 15, 2008


Margaret Irene (Reid) Thacker, 85, of Rural Sumner, IL went to be with her Lord after a battle with Pancreatic Cancer Wednesday  October 15, 2008 at 3:50PM at home surrounded by her family.

She was born September 16, 1923 in Dubois, PA the oldest of four children, to Robert and Etta (McCoy) Reid. She married Melvin Thacker September 9, 1941 in St. Louis, MO, and he passed away October 30, 2005.

Survivors include her children: Russell Thacker of Scottsbluff, NE, Reid Thacker and wife Shannon of Chauncey, IL, Marty Yost of Bridgeport, IL, Mac Thacker and wife Julie of Robinson, IL, Todd Thacker and wife Amy of Terre Haute, IN, and Lynette Frye and husband Mark of Chauncey, IL. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers: Edward Reid and Wally Reid and one sister: Roberta Hanson Dewey. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin, granddaughter Jacqueline Louise Thacker and so-in-law Don Yost.

Margaret graduated from Oblong High School; in 1940. She was a homemaker and a long time member of the Landes United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Lawrence and Crawford County Home Extension, Chauncey Community Club, Lawrence Co. Senior Citizens, and the United Methodist Village Auxiliary. Margaret was the long time reporter of the Chauncey-Landes News.

Margaret had many hobbies she enjoyed, such as Refunding, she was an avid gardener, loved participating in area county fairs, and especially enjoyed entering various items with her granddaughters for many years. She received  Best Floral Arrangement at the Lawrence County 4-H Fair.

There will be a visitation at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00PM with a Memorial Service beginning  at 4:00pm, as Margaret requested her body be donated to science for research. There will be no burial.

Memorial donations may be given to the Chauncey Community Club with envelopes available at the funeral home.

RICHARD L. DANIELS
OCTOBER 9, 2008


Richard L. Daniels, 64, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Thursday, October 9, 2008 at his residence.

He was born October 8, 1944 in Centerville, IA, the son of Gene and Edith (Casteel) Daniels.  He married Freda Glenn February 14, 2006 and she survives.

Richard retired from Oscar Meyer in 2003.  He was a member of the VFW.  Richard served in the Army from 1962 to 1966 and served in the Air Force from 1966 to 1970.

He is survived by his wife Freda, two daughters Veronica and Danny Ralston of Bridgeport and Elizabeth and Dr. Chris Mendola of Chandler, AZ; one step-son Melvin Newlin of San Diego, CA; two step-daughters Katie Haskell and Sharon Culbertson both of Vincennes, IN; two brothers Harry Daniels of Hartley, IA and Francis Daniels of Davenport, IA; nine grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and one grandson.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 3:00 pm at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville with burial to follow in the Pollard Cemetery. 
Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the funeral home.

HELEN I. (FISHER) HIGGINS
OCTOBER 7, 2008

Helen I. (Fisher) Higgins, 83, of Vincennes, IN passed away Tuesday October, 7, 2008 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, IN.

She was born October 31, 1924 in Lawrence County, IL to Frank and Elsie Mae (York) Pinkstaff. She married Eugene Fisher on September 11, 1943 in Vincennes, IN. He passed away October 30, 1971. She later married Lowell Higgins. He survives.

Helen had worked as a Nurse's Aide at Good Samritan Hospital for many years. She was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Rising Sun Christian Church in rural Lawrenceville, and attended Franklin Heights Christian Church in Vincennes, In. She was a member of the American Business Women Association and was past Woman of the Year. She was a dedicated Christian wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. 

She is survived by 2 sons: Darrell and wife Linda Fisher of Lawrenceville, IL, Ronald and wife Jane Fisher of Lawrenceville, IL, 2 sisters: Hazel Mahan of Vincennes, IN, Wanda Manship of Glascow, KY, 6 grandchildren: Carmen Rains of Robinson, IL, Curt Fisher of Charleston, IL. Kevin Fisher of St. Louiis, Mo, Keith Fisher of Lawrenceville, IL, Christy Whewell of Lawrenceville, IL, Kimberly Fisher of Lawrenceville, IL, 8 great-grandchildren: Cassandra, Cierra, and Collin Rains of Robinson, IL, Cameron and casey Fisher of Charleston, IL, Wyatt and Elsie Whewell of Lawrenceville, IL, and Karter Fisher of Lawrenceville, IL.

Along with her parents, and husband, 2 brothers and 3 sisters are deceased.

Clyde Raymond Thomas, 69, of Bridgeport, IL, passed away Tuesday October 7, 2008 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 30, 1939 in St. Louis, MO the son of Clyde Willard and Mary Ellen (Martin) Thomas.

He worked as a mechanic for Adams/Meyers. He also was a farmer, and worked for AMF/Roadmaster.

He is survived by 2 sons: Raymond Thomas and wife Brenda of Bicknell, IN, Christopher E. Thomas of Bridgeport, IL, 2 daughters: Linda Thomas of Vincennes, IN, Ellen Mae Wagner and husband Harry of Oak Landon, IN, 3 brothers: James Wright of Olney, IL, Roger Wright of Vincennes, IN, Charles Thomas of Bridgeport, IL, 2 sisters: Mary Harvey of Vincennes, IN, Alma Higgins of Vincennes, IN, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. 3 brothers, a sister, and a great grandchild are deceased.

The funeral will be Friday at 1:00pm at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bridgeport City Cemetery. Visitation is also Friday from 12:00noon until the service hour of 1:00pm.

Helen Mae Grogan, 86, of Sumner passed away Sunday October 5, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN.

She was born July 19, 1922 in Bridgeport, IL the daughter of Garl and Myrtle Mae (Ruby) Mieure. On November 7, 1952 she married Lee Grogan. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1998.

Helen was a homemaker. She was a member of the Union Chapel United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Ladies Home Extention Club- Prarie Unit.

She is survived by 2 sons: Tom Grogan of Sumner, IL, Dan Grogan of Olney, IL, 3 brothers: Mervin Mieure of Wellington, NV, Leotis Mieure of Antioch, IL, Don Mieure of Findley, OH, 1 sister: Elsie Pelham of Sumner, IL and 3 grandchildren. a great grandchild, 6 brothers, and 2 sisters are deceased.

The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00pm at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Memoral Park Cemetery. Visitation is also Thursday from 11:00am until the service hour of 1:00PM.

Lisa A. Theriac, 46, of Vincennes, IN passed away Friday October 3, 2008 at Good Samritan Hospital in Vincennes.

Born October 26, 1961 in Lawrenceville, she was the daughter of Cleo and Nancy (Leib) McCallister. On December 10, 2000 she married Terry Theriac. He survives.

Lisa was a homemaker. She was a member of the Lawrenceville Free Methodist Church, and she was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary #2244.

Along with her mother and husband, she is survived by a son: Corey Moore of Vincennes, IN, a daughter: Anastasia Christine Cessna of Vincennes, IN, and 3 grandchildren.

The funeral will be Monday at 2:00pm at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Visitation is also Monday from 12:00 until the service hour of 2:00pm. Burial will be conducted at a later date.

MELVIN POWELL
OCTOBER 2, 2008


Melvin Powell, 97, of Lawrenceville passed away Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the United Methodist Village North Campus in Lawrenceville.  He was born July 4, 1911, in Stewardson, IL, the son of Doris and Amanda (Rozene) Powell.  He married Melita (Bair) Powell on August 31, 1935.

Melvin was a self-employed interior designer and painter.  He also worked at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville and was a member of the American Legion and VFW.  Melvin was an Army veteran, having served during WWII.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Melita; a son Jeffery Powell of Bloomington, IN; a daughter Carolyn Shannon of Columbus, IN; one sister; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

HAROLD A. YORK

Harold A. York, 85, of rural Lawrenceville passed away September 29, 2008 at the United Methodist Village North Campus.

He was born December 7, 1922 in Crawford County, IL, the son of James Albert and Bessie (Wasson) York.

Harold was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville.  He also attended Calvary Apostolic Church in Lawrenceville. 
Harold retired from the Good Samaritan Hospital Maintenance Department.  He served in the United States Marines, 1st Marines Division during WWII.  He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Survivors include his second wife Mary Lue (Sumner) York of rural Lawrenceville; three sons Terry and Joy York of Hudson, OH, Richard York of Lawrenceville, Craig and Deb York of Bridgeport; four step-daughters Pam McCammon of Vincennes, IN, Marcia Siebert of St. Petersburg, FL, Julie and Bill Lockhart of rural Lawrenceville, Janice and Gary Stoltz of Mt. Carmel, IL; six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Helen (Ridgely) York, three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral will be Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville with burial to follow in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home.

David L. Higgins, 67, of Lawrenceville passed away Tuesday September 23, 2008 at his residence.

He was born in Crawford County, IL on April 28, 1941 the son of Samuel Allen and Gleda (Akers) Higgins.

David served 20 years in the United States Army, including 2 Tours of Duty in Vietnam. He then worked as a mechanic at Akin Seed Company for 22 years. He was a member of the VFW, Elks, Moose, and the Eagles.

Survivors include a son: Jeff Higgins of Fayetteville, NC, a daughter: Gayla Smith of Saugatuck, MI, 2 brothers: Bill Higgins of Lawrenceville, IL, Marlin Higgins of Lawrenceville, IL, 2 sisters: Mary Moore of Lawrenceville, IL, Donna Kay Stevenson of Woodstock, GA, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. 4 brothers and 2 sisters are deceased.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Charlottsville Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home.

Michael Thomas Kirkland, 53, of Sumner, IL passed away Sunday afternoon at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.

Born January 27, 1955 in Thomaston, GA, he was the son of Thomas Edison and Mary Catherine (McKinley) Kirkland. Following the death of his mother, he was raised by Opal (Stout) Kirkland. On June 18, 1976 he married Susan Wright. She survives.

Mike was a Supervisor at Jabat INC. in Olney, IL. He was a member of the Chauncey Church of God.

Survivors include: a son: Shawn (Stephanie) Kirkland of Olney, IL, a daughter: Misty Kirkland of Vincennes, IN, 2 sisters: Debra Rosborough of Sumner, IL, Donna Strom of Thomaston, GA , a grandfather: James H. McKinley of Thomaston, GA, and 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, and a nephew: Cody Rosborough.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00am at the Chauncey Church of God with burial to follow at the Chauncey Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home.

Olive R. York, 81, of rural Lawrenceville, IL passed away Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the United Methodist Village.

She was born August 10, 1927 in Lawrence County, the daughter of Ell and Della (Poland) Waggoner.  She married George Robert "Bob" York on June 2, 1950 and he passed away March 11, 2007.

Olive was a homemaker and a member of the Island Free Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Doug and Anita York of Lawrenceville; one daughter Peggy and Ed Turner of Lawrenceville; one sister Elouise Westall of Noble, IL; and three grandchildren Abbie and Chris Cochran, Sally and Justin Daugherty, and Nikki and Joe Brown.

Olive was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, and one sister.

The funeral will be Saturday at 12:00 (noon) at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL.

Avis R. Hodge, 90, of Sumner, IL passed away Thursday, September 11, 2008 at her residence.

She was born April 30, 1918 in Michigan, the daughter of Harry and Lena (Brownell) Benjamin.  In October of 1941, she married Harold Hodge, who passed away in July, 1980.

She was a homemaker and she was affiliated with the Union Chapel Church.

She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Bears as well.  She also enjoyed playing cards and going camping.

Avis is survived by one son James L. (Rita) Hodge of Grayslake, IL; three daughters Norreta K. (John) Gray of rural Sumner, IL, Sandra Haaff of Bruceville, IN (whose husband James C. Haaff is deceased), Kathryn (Nelson) Lemeron of rural Flat Rock, IL; one adopted granddaughter Kristi K. (Gary) Kocher of rural Lawrenceville; and nine grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one granddaughter and three sisters.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 pm at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner.  Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery.

He was a mechanic and electrician at Whitco Chemical Co. for 35 years. He was a member of Crawford County Farm Beaureu.

Along with his wife, he is survived by 2 sons; Harley (Raydelle) Goof of Flat Rock, IL, Sherman Goff of Lawrenceville, IL, a daughter: Joan Rasico of Flat Rock, IL, 3 sisters: Doris Patterson of Bridgeport, IL, Hazel Leah Tedford of Dode City, FL, Anna Rae Hicks of Muscle Shoals, AL, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 8 step-great-grandchildren. A son Jackie Goff, a daughter Verna Hetherington, and a grandson Gerald Goff are deceased.

She was a homemaker, and she was a member of the Church of  God in Chauncey, IL.

She is survived by two sons James Thiel of Levittown, PA and Donald Thiel of Andover, KS; one brother Russell Lombardo of Beacon, NY; and three grandchildren.

Roger A. Lamb, 52, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Friday August 22, 2008 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrencevillle, IL.

He was born March 10, 1956 in Paris, IL to George and Kathryn (Richson) Lamb. On December 23, 1988 he married Jamie Dart. She survives.

He was an Optometrist at Chittick Optical in Lawrenceville for 23 years. He was a 1974 graduate of Paris High School, and a 1976 graduate of Southern Illinois University Mortuary School. In 1984 he graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry. He attended Central Christian Church. He was a former member of the Elks, and the Kiwanis Club.

Along with his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Hannah Lamb of Lawrenceville, IL, his mother: Kathryn Lamb of Chrisman, IL, a brother: Steve (Beth) Lamb of Cleveland, OH, Father and Mother In-Law: Dean and Betty Dart of Oblong, IL, a brother in-law: Rod Dart of Oblong, IL, and nieces and nephews.

Don I. Hills, 77, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Tuesday August 2, 2008 at his residence.

He was born August 18, 1930 in Lawrence County, IL to Lester L. and Emma B. (Johnson) Hills. On July 23, 1955 he married Hazel Griesmer. She survives.

He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for 43 years for Allendale Gravel Company. He was also a pilot and Flight Instructor with Commercial Flight Rating in the late 1960's and early 1970's. He received his HAM Radio Operator Certification in 1983. He was a member of the St. Francisville Masonic Lodge for 42 years and served as Past Master for one year. He was also a member of 3R/C Clubs: Prop Busters in Browns, IL, Tri-Aero in Vincennes, IN, and Sea Hawks in Cape Coral, FL. Since 1984 he enjoyed building and competing with R/C Scale Model Aircraft. He served in the US Army as a Medic and was stationed in Germany in the 1950's.

Along with his wife, he is survived by 3 daughters: Debra and Jeff Miller of Lawrenceville, IL, Cindy and Ron Fitch of Mt. Carmel, IL, Sheila and Raymond Montgomery of Lawrenceville, IL, 1 brother: Edward Hills of Bridgeport, IL, a sister: Gerry Pfoff of Lawrenceville, IL, grandchildren: Michael Montgomery of Lawrenceville, IL, Beth Ann Montgomery of Lawrenceville, IL, Shibonne Jacobson of Stillwater, MN, great grandchildren: Lexis Fitch, of Mt. Carmel, IL, Tavis Burton of Mt. Carmel, IL, Tyler Burton of Mt. Carmel, IL, Austin Jacobson of Stillwater, MN, Kenny Campbell of Mobile, Al, and 2 nieces and nephews. Kerry Emmons, 56, of Lawrenceville passed away Thursday July 31, 2008 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.

He was born May 30, 1952 in Lawrenceville, IL, the son of Charles E. and Mary Eileen (Jones) Emmons.

Kerry was an electrician by trade and a former Volunteer Fire Fighter for Lawrence-Allison Fire District. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Elks, Moose and Knights of Columbus. He graduated from Lawrenceville High School and attended the Indianapolis School of Mortuary Science.

He is survived by 2 sons: Zach Emmons of Evansville, IN, Eric Emmons of Carbondale, IL, 2 daughters: Amanda Megginson of Dupo, IL, Melissa Emmons of Carbondale, IL, 2 brothers: Kelly Emmons of Hoffman Estates, IL, Gene Emmons of Longmont, CO, 3 sisters: Judy Morton of Lumberton, Tx, Patty White of Lawrenceville, IL, Joni Courtney of Lawrenceville, IL, and 4 grandchildren. His parents and a brother Kim Emmons preceded him in death.

Louise H. Tewell Weedon, 84, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, IN.

Born February 13, 1924 in Lawrence County, IL, she was the daughter of James M. and Minnie (Darnold) Linton.  She first husband Russell Tewell is deceased.  Her second husband Arthur Weedon is also deceased. 

Louise worked as a CNA at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.  She was also a homemaker.  Louise was a member of the Hi-Way Church of God, Lawrenceville, IL.

Louise will be greatly missed by her family & Friends who were very important to her.  She loved Jesus and her church family and lived her life portraying this love.  Her smiling face and jokes are now being enjoyed in heaven. 

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Russell of Vincennes, IN; one granddaughter Melinda Gher; two great-grandchildren Lexa Gher and Jarod Gher both of Lawrenceville; and one great-great grandchild Leah Gher of Ohio.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husband, two brothers Floyd Linton and Howard Linton; one sister Peggy Webb; and one great-grandson Justin Gher.

The funeral will be Friday, August 1, 2008 at 2:00 pm at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL.   Visitation will be Friday from 12:00 (noon) until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the May Chapel Cemetery.

Charles G. Vogel Jr., 72, of Sumner, IL passed away Sunday July 27, 2008 at his residence.

Born July 29, 1935 in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of Charles G> and Helen (Bussie) Vogel Sr. He was married to Shirley (Ferguson) Vogel. She preceded him in death on June 25, 1995.

He was a Baker at Vincennes University. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII. He was a member of Immaculate Conception in Bridgeport, IL.

He is survived by 3 sons: Greg and Teresa) Erickson of Sumner, IL, Aaron Toby Erickson of Olney, IL, Marc Ereickson of York, IL, a daughter: Carmen McCavy of Clarksville, TN, a brother: James Lawrence Vogel of Lebanon, OR, a sister: Barbara Schmit of Florida, 9 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.

The funeral will be Thursday at 1:30pm at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00noon until the service hour of 1:30pm. Burial will be at Secedar Cemetery west of Flat Rock, IL.

JULY 25, 2008

Billie L. Seed, 74, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Friday July 25, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN.

She was born January 3, 1934 in Lawrence County, IL the daughter of William Lyman and Bethel K. (Barker)-Leighty Houghtaling. She married Donald A. Seed on April 19, 1957. He passed away April 15, 2000.

She had worked as Secretary and Trucking Dispatcher for Girton Brothers Trucking in Lawrenceville. She also worked as a nurse's aid at the United Methodist Village. She was a member of the Billett United Methodist Church, Women of the Moose, Eagles, VFW and American Legoin Auxiliary. She had served as Treasurer of the Lawrence County Historical Society.

She and her husband raised their niece and nephew: Leanis and Husband Coen Peters of Harbeson, DE, and Larry and wife Betty Seed of Lancaster, OH, 2 brothers: George and wife Rosalee Leighty of Mcclenasboro, IL, Randall and Ellen Houghtaling of Eliphant Butte, NM, and a sister-in-law: Ina Houghtaling.

The funeral will be Monday at 10:30am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Burial will be at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

Donna L. Peno, 76, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Sunday July 20, 2008 at her residence.

Born September 12, 1931 in Lawrence County, IL, she was the daughter of Van D. and Maxine Van Ellis Peerman.

On June 20, 1953 she married Cleo O. Peno. He preceded her in death on January 31, 1986.

Donna was a homemaker and was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Vincennes, IN.

She is survived by 2 sons: Scott Peno of Effingham, IL, Mark Peno of  Lawrenceville, IL, 4 daughters: Susan Peno of Lawrenceville, IL Becky Peno of Lawrenceville, IL Julie McCartney of Canton, IL, Mary Peno of Lawrenceville, IL, 3 sisters: Lois Maxwell of Lawrenceville, IL, Mary Jane Burrell of Lafayette, IN, Mary Carole Peerman of Lafayette, IN, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 10:00am CST at St. John's Catholic Church in Vincennes, IN. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL. Burial will be at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

Born October 5, 1940 in Robinson, IL she was the daughter of Jack Gray and Irene (Patton) Seber.

She was a member of the Calvary Apostolic Church in Lawrenceville.

She is survived by a son: Brad (Melanie) Holems of Ft. Branch, IN, 2 daughters: Lisa (Jim) Rhodes of West Fork, IN, Sheri (Donnie) Vinson of Lawrenceville, IL, a sister: Sharon Smith of Vincennes, IN and 5 grandchildren.

Delilah J. Newell, 96, of Flat Rock, IL passed away July 20, 2008 at her residence.

Born May 13, 1912 in Lawrenceville, IL she was the daughter of Chase and Elvra (Strugeon) Ryan. She married Karl E. Newell on August 5, 1934. He preceded her in death on March 13, 1999.

She was a homemaker and a farm wife. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lawrenceville, IL. She was also member of a sewing Club.

She is survived by a son: K.E. and his wife Cecilia "Cooky" Newell of Flat Rock, IL, 3 grandchildren: Kara and her husband Walid El-Kadi, Kevin and wife J.P. Newell, and Kirby and his wife Jane Newell, 9 great grandchildren: Amanda El-Kadi, Jason Newell, Tammer El-Kadi, Jenna El-Kadi, Griffiin Newell, Jackson Newell, Elena Newell, James Newell, and Landon Newell. Several nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law also survive. An infant daughter, and two brothers are deceased.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8Pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at the May Chapel Cemetery.

Karla G. (Umfleet) Harvey, 48, of Sumner, IL passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 2:30 am (EST) at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN.

Born December 14, 1959 in Aurora, CO, she was the daughter of Earl and Lois (Collins) Umfleet of Sumner, IL.  She married Forrest Harvey October 4, 1990.

Karla worked at Golden Rule Insurance as a data entry clerk. 

She is survived by her husband Forrest Harvey of Sumner; her parents Earl and Lois Umfleet of Sumner; two sons Joshua Slater of Wichita, KS and Jeremy Slater of Fort Bragg, N.C.; one step-son David J. Harvey of Sumner, IL; two daughters Sarah Slater of Olney, IL, Rachel Harvey of Sumner, IL; three step-daughters Lauren Harvey of Sumner, IL, Deborah Crist of Ft. Campbell, KY and Brianna Harvey of Johnstown, PA; five sisters including a twin-sister Darla Nicewander of Sumner, IL, Susan Farris of Elkmont, AL, Annette Kiser of Sumner, IL, Teresa Parker of Bloomington, IN, and Jeri May of Dietrich, IL; as well as nine grandchildren.

The visitation will be Monday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, IL.  The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am on Monday with burial to follow in the Sumner Cemetery.

Charles R. Moore, 83, of Calhoun, IL passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 4:10 am at the Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, IL.

Born December 12, 1924 in Richland County, IL, he was the son of Walter and Floe (Shick) Moore.  He married Lora Mae Ridgley on April 27, 1971 in Springfield, TN.  He was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Berryville Christian Church. 

Charles is survived by his wife Lora Mae of Calhoun, IL, one sister Dorothy Newell of Sumner, IL, and three nieces Sandra Steffen of Marrietta, GA, Kay Romsland of Belleview, WA, Cindy Wendell of Farmers City, IL.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 am at the Gilead Cemetery Southwest of Sumner, IL.  There will be no visitation.

Billie L. Eaton of Olney, IL (formerly of the Chauncey area) passed away Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 6:50 p.m. at the Richland Hospital Long-Term Care Facility. 

Born July 14, 1932 in Lawrenceville, IL, she was the daughter of Vance and Edythe (Lynch) Westall.  She married Dwight Eaton on December 2, 1950.  He survives.

Billie was a farm wife and had been a  long time member of the Sumner United Methodist Church.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who took great pride in all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband, survivors include four daughters Kathy Cranmer of Littleton, CO, Connie Williams of Indianapolis, IN, Tracy Dearing of Peoria, IL and Patti Totten of Olney, IL; one brother Ron Westall of Oblong, IL; seven grandchildren Amy Cranmer of Crestone, CO, Erin Cranmer of Boulder, CO; Kaycee Cozart of Greeley CO, Derick Williams of Indianapolis, IN, Amber Williams of Indianapolis, IN, Sean Dearing of Peoria, IL and Jenae Dearing of Peoria, Il, as well as one great-grandchild Aniyah Williams of Indianapolis, IN.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.

A graveside service will be held Friday morning at 11:00 AM at the Chauncey Cemetery.  Friends are welcome to attend the graveside service and the gathering at the Chauncey Community Club following the service for a time of fellowship.  There will be a private visitation.

Diana L. Regnier, 55, of Poplar Grove, IL (formerly of Greencastle, IN) passed away on Wednesday July 2, 2008 at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Born January 9, 1953 in Kankakee, IL she was the daughter of Howard and Darlene (Hupel) Byick. She was married to Wayne L. Regnier. He survives.

Diana had worked as a Teacher's Assistant at Greencastle Middle School and at Cascade High School. She was a former member of the Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department in Greencastle. She was a member of the Northeast Christian Church in Rockford, IL.

Along with her husband, survivors include three daughters: Tara (Jerrod) Baugh of Greencastle, IN, Tammy (Trevor) Seed of Lawrenceville, IL, Tina (Mike) Davis of  Avon, IN, a sister Patty (Alan) Blanchette of Kankakee, IL and  6 grandchildren: Jacob Seed, Cody Albin, Nate Seed, Gayle Baugh, Michael Albin, and Gavin Davis.

The funeral will be conducted Saturday July 5, 2008 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home in Greencastle, IN with visitation from 10:00am until the service hour. Entombment will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle, IN

DEETTA I. BUNTING

JUNE 25, 2008

DeEtta Bunting, 96, a lifelong resident of rural Sumner, died of congestive heart failure at Lawrence Community Healthcare Center in Bridgeport on Wednesday, June 25, 2008.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Sumner United Methodist Church and, until her illness, was an active participant in many church activities.  As matriarch of her family, she was a loving inspiration to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

DeEtta Imogene Brown was born in Lawrence County on April 23, 1912, the daughter of Grover and Maude (Hutchinson) Brown.  In 1935, she married Glen Albert Bunting, who preceded her in death in 1976.

Survivors include a son, David Bunting of Sumner, a daughter Cyndalu Van Cleve and her husband Stephen, of Lakeland, FL; five grandchildren, Roy Bunting of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Michael Bunting of Fort Irwin, CA, Curtis Van Cleve of Sumner, Pamela LiCalsi of LaQuinta, CA, and David Van Cleve of Geneva, IL, as well as five great-grandchildren, Roberto Carlos and Roy Alexander Bunting, Cassidy and Madison Van Cleve, and Megan Van Cleve Willcox.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 8 PM at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, 509 S. Christy, Sumner, IL.  The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in the Sumner Cemetery.

Verdene Angle White, 85, of Lawrenceville passed away Saturday June 21, 2008 at the United Methodist Village North Campus in Lawrenceville.

Born April 10, 1923 in Petty Township, Illinois, she was the daughter of Edward and Tura (Longnecker) Angle. She married Bob O. White on November 11, 1941. He died  on November 4, 1992.

She is survived by a son: David White of Lawrenceville, 2 daughters: Jobeth Westergard of Longview, TX, Bobbi Argo of Midland, TX, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville, IL.

Visitation is Monday June 23, 2008 from 5 to 8PM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Private Services will be conducted. Burial is at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

JOHN PHILIP SIVERT
JUNE 19, 2008

Phil Sivert, 90, passed away Thursday June 19, 2008 in Lawrenceville, IL. He was born May 28, 1918 to Hugh and Alice Sivert in Sumner, IL.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary, a daughter and son-in-law Suzanne and Tom Musgrove, and grandchildren Melanie, Craig, and Christopher Musgrove.

Phil was an educator, teaching in Lawrenceville High School and Vincennes University and serving as County Superintendent of Schools. He served in the US Army during WWII, and the Army Reserves thereafter, attaining the rank of Colonel.

He loved greatly his family, church, and friends, volunteering in many areas of church and community.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, followed by a Memorial Service at the First Christian Church at 4:00pm.

Mike Pargin, 53, of Lawrenceville passed away Wednesday June 18, 2008 at his residence.

Born January 16, 1955 in Lawrence County, IL he was the son of Charles Dale and Evelyn (Lockhart) Pargin of Lawrenceville, IL. He worked as a mechanic and worked at Pargin Auto Service. He was a member of the Billett United Methodist Church.

On November 21, 2001 he married Martha Waggoner. She survives. Also surviving are 2 sons: Ben Pargin of Sullivan, IN, Mitch Pargin of Vincennes, IN, 1 daughter: Aimee Pargin of Vincennes, IN, 2 step-sons: Jeremy Hall of Beaufort, SC, Jonathon Hall of Billett, IL, a sister: Sandy and her husband Dale Rachell of Belleville, IL, and 3 grandchildren. Four brothers are deceased.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Visitation is Friday from 5 to 8PM. Burial will be at the Billett Cemetery.

Betty was a homemaker and was a member of the Sumner Free Methodist Church.

David A. Kelley, 37, of Lawrenceville, Il passed away Thursday June 12, 2008 at his residence. He was bron August 5, 1970 in Rapid City, SD to Dan and Irma (Wagner) Kelley, both of Lawrenceville, IL.

He is also survived by a sister: Rebecca and her husband Benjamin Berzinis, of Travis Air Force Base, CA, maternal grandmother: Pearl Wagner of Lawrenceville, IL , and several aunts and uncles.

He was a graduate of Wabash Valley College with a degree in Broadcasting. He worked at Sumner Care and Rehab in Maintenance, the Lawrence Crawford Workshop and Transition Facility. He also worked in Maintenance with his Dad in Plymouth, IN. He was a DJ for some time and was a recording technician. He was a member of the Hoopston Christian Disciples of Christ. He was also a member of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts of America. He played the bells in Bell Choir at church and played the piano. He was a Royal Ambassador at church.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 1):00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Visitation is Monday from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Burial will be at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

Rebekah Van Grinsven, 46, of Kimberly, WI (formely of Bridgeport, IL,) passed away Wednesday June 11, 2008 at Appleton Medical Center in Appleton, WI. Born February 24, 1962 in Lawrenceville, IL she was the daughter of Chester Harold and Betty (Belcher) Allen. On July 1, 1988 she married Thomas Van Grinsven in Radcliff, KY. He survives.

Along with her husband, she is survived by 3 brothers: John Mark Allen of Bridgeport, IL, Robert Lynn Allen of Bridgeport, IL, Daniel Allen of Sumner, IL, 3 sisters: Deborra Allen of Bridgeport, IL, Beth Ann Lee of Gahana, OH, Donna Abas Al Khuzaei of Doha, Qatar, 11 nephews, 5 nieces, 5 aunts and 1 uncle.

She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Bridgeport, IL. She was also a member of the Toussaint Duboios Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Marvin Wade Goodwin, 73, of Lawrenceville passed away Thursday June 12, 2008 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital. Born August 24, 1934 in Bloomfield, IN he was the son of Lester Wade and Jewie (Bland) Goodwin. He married Joann Fouts on October 20, 1974.

He retired from Texaco where he worked as a tank truck driver. He was a US Army Veteran.

Along with his wife, he is survived by 2 step-sons: David Duane Quick of Owensville, IN, Dennis Wayne Quick of Tampa, FL, a step daughter: Claudia Sue Ravellette of Elizabethtown, TN, a brother: Kenneth Goodwin of Bloomfield, IN, 2 sisters: Doris Resler of New Albany, IN, Imogene Maxwell of Davenport, IA, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

William C. Fodr, 84, of Lawrenceville passed away Wednesday June 11, 2008 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital. Born June 13, 1923 in Lawrenceville, IL he was the son of Rev. Toney and Julia (Duncan) Ford. He married Monna Wampler on July 17, 1965.

He worked at Central Cigar as a stock clerk. He had also worked for meadow Gold and worked as a custodian for the Unit 20 Schools. He served in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Highway Church of God.

Along with his wife, survivors include 4 sons: Dan Burnett of Bridgeport, IL, Ed Burnett of Johnston City, IL, Keith Ford of Lawrenceville, Il, Paul Ford of Herrin, IL, 6 daughters: Susan Townsend of Memphis, TN, Janet Cody of Elyria, OH, Linda Frazier of Chapel Hill, NC, Susan Wall of Calgary, Alberta, Julia Hoalt of Lawrenceville, IL, Donna Smith of Greenwood, IN, a brother: Henry Ford of Findley, OH, 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Two sons, five brothers, and three sisters are deceased.

The funeral will be Saturday at 12:00pm at the Highway Church of God in Lawrenceville. Visitation is from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday at the church. Burial is at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

Norma J. Yosowitz, 81, of Lawrenceville passed away Thursday June 5, 2008 at Lawrence Community Healthcare Center in Bridgeport, IL. Born August 2, 1926 in Lawrenceville, she was the daughter of Roy L. and Mary (Anderson) Sager. August 10 1952 she married Mandell Yosowitz. He preceded her in death on August 14, 2007.

Norma worked as a nurse at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital before retirement. She also for Dr. Pace and Dr. Cullison in their medical practices. She was a member of the Temple Adath B'Na'i Isreal in Evansville, IN. She graduated on August 1, 1952 from Welborn College of Nursing.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Sue and Loren Urfer of Olney, IL, Ann and Frank Cozza of Melrose Park, IL, and a grandchild: Ausitn Urfer of Olney, IL.

Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00pm at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Evansville, IN. Visitation is Wednesday from 9:00am to 11:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home.

Donald R. Helderman, 75, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Wednesday June 4, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born February 19, 1933 in Vincennes, IN to Joseph Earl and Evelyn (Capitola) Helderman.

He was first married to Shirley McClure. She preceded him in death on November 18, 1998. He then married Helen (Marsee) Hughes. She survives.

Also surviving are 5 sons: Jerry (Bonnie) Helderman of Henderson, KY, Robert (Sue) Helderman of Lawrenceville, IL, Thomas (Rane) Helderman of Lawrenceville, IL, David (Tammy) Helderman of Lawrenceville, IL, Chris (Celeste) Helderman of Bridgeport, IL, a daughter: Gloria Jeannie Ramirez of Lawrenceville, IL, step-daughters: Rebecca Vincent of Bridgeport, IL, Paula (Robert) Stephens of Lawrenceville, IL, Teresa (Frank) Littlejohn of Dugger, IN, a brother: Joe Helderman of Christopher, IL, 4 sisters: Mildred Gilbert of New Iberia, La, Eulah McClure of Vincennes, IN, Doris Twitty of Lebanon, IN, Karen Sue Twitty of Lebanon, IN, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 step-great grandchildren. One grandson is deceased.

Don was retired from the City of Lawrenceville and was a self employed plumber. He was a member of the Trinity Power of Pentecost Church in Lawrenceville. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00pm at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 and 8:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at May Chapel Cemetery.
